Peter Cottontail visited the lake house this Easter and he became the centerpiece on the table! I found him and a younger brother dressed in felt suits at an antique store in Forth Worth a few years ago, visiting my son at college. Little did I know how important Peter would become to my blog and our family traditions!
This year at the lake, I decided to use beautiful blue lacey linens handed down to me by my aunt. They were in perfect condition as all of her linens were always put away ironed and clean. I decide to mix the elegant vintage look with some of my more rustic pieces, reminding me of when we used to visit a beautiful cabin restaurant in a little Colorado town in the mountains. They had gourmet foods and mixed elegant with rustic to a tee.
Meanwhile, at the house in town, another Easter celebration was in the preparation stages. It is the first time our extended family would be able to gather at a holiday as many are not vaccinated. I thought the occasion called for "happy" and that meant pink!
I was thrilled to be able to use some special table cloths from Spruce Home in Leawood, Kansas, and I decided to pull out all the stops and use silver hollowware and good china and crystal this year. I used to make Easter more casual when the kids and their cousins were little. It was more relaxing to not have to worry about our paper-thin delicate Lalique crystal being broken. With everyone grown, our gatherings will be more formal now!
Easter seems to call for sweet treats at each pacesetting, so these moss-covered baskets met the challenge. Beaded flower napkin ring held antique white luncheon linens, and my aunt's Copeland English china was perfect, the salads with lacey trim.
Even though we will not have all our kids home this year, it will still be a fun time with family, and the homemade food made from family recipes will puts big smiles on our faces.
